You may recall that for a really unique Christmas present I had a local Boulder artist (Mike Brouse) paint my long time training partner Happy.
You may also recall that Mike is a very talented artist who has a knack for capturing the emotion of the moment.
That's why I was so thrilled to get this painting.
From a tiny and pretty hard to see digital image Mike created an incredible painting of my finish at Ironman Austria a few year ago.
Best of all he not only captured the magic of that moment, but my wife and son as well (who as you can see crossed the finish line along with me on that very special day).
Mike works in both mixed media and water color.
Take a look at the images (in the this order) the original tiny marathon-photo, the water color, the study Mike did for the mixed media painting, and the mixed media work.
He was kind enough to paint in both styles for me as an example of his work.
You'll notice that both paintings really capture the magic of that moment for me. I only wish I would have had a better finish line photo for Mike as the original one I gave him is so small that he had to guess at many of the finer details.
But just image what Mike could do with a better finish line photo.
If you like his art Mike will also turn your finish line photo into fine art.
He rates are very reasonable and include a ready to hang painting in an elegant frame.

This mixed media painting has a lot of texture that will emerge when it is lacquered. The surface texture, created by using a gesso underpainting, is a differentiator of this style of painting. I have not seen many artists using this technique under a gouache painting.
