It's going on 2 weeks post-fantastic, fabulous, fun Ironman. And yes, I am about ready to crawl out of my skin! The week following I did no organized exercise activity. Unless you call walking through department stores and arguing with 8 and 10 year old girls about fall clothes exercise, it was a pretty dead week.
After a week of nothingness, I was starting to squirm pretty badly. Unfortunately, I developed a head cold right after the race and am still deal with the feeling of snot practically oozing out of my eyeballs. Too much info? This week I've logged a total of 9 agonizingly slow running miles, 2 Pilates classes, and one easy weight lifting session. That's enough, I realize.
The switch has been flipped and it's out with the old season and on to the new. Ironman Wisconsin was my big dance. That's over. Now I get to plan and think about the next year. Too me, that's exciting. I have a few preliminary thoughts; some solidified, some still in the swirling stage.
Solidified Thoughts
*Ironman Wisconsin will be my AA race for 2008. I've got plans, people!
*My 10 year-old and I are going to run a local 5K race together in October. (Please don't think I'm one of those crazy parents who push their kids. In fact, I think I'm quite the opposite. I know what it's like to be a Type A'er and long to be more laid back and lacking in long-terms of structured goals. I'm taking her lead on this.)
*I'm going to try an off-road bike race in October. The race is in Sheboygan, WI and is part of the Wisconsin Off Road Series. Do I know anything about off road racing? No. Do I own a mountain bike? No. Have I ever road a mountain bike? No. But why let that stop me. Please, God, don't let me fall and break out my two front teeth!
*My main goal for the off-season is to work on my running. If I want to be competitive, that's going to have to get stepped up a notch or two or three or four.
Swirling Thoughts
*I am tossing around the idea of doing the Las Vegas Marathon on December 2. The cool thing about this would be that I could meet ShirleyPerly who is also doing the race. If I get the days off of work, I am in.
*I will probably do about three local snowshoe races this winter. I would like one of them to be a mountaineer race. That is a snowshoe race which is longer in distance and the racer wears a weighted backpack. Now that sounds like fun, eh? I don't think we have to build our own port-a-potty or kill a bear or anything like that.
*The Vineman 70.3 race is a probable 'do'.
*It would be fun to do a race with my teamie, Sweet, and his TriSharks club.
*Possibly do more off-road racing, depending on the carnage I cause myself after the October debut.
*I would like to do a sprint and half-ironman distance tri put on by Midwest Sports Events in my immediate (3 hour driving distance) vicinity.
That looks like a lot when written on paper. Oh well, first things first; get rid of the snot oozing out of my eyeballs!
